MRTV from the Ministry of Information
Started to exist in 1st November 1980 by NTSC color format.
211 relay stations across the country as the end of 2008.
First TV commercial was aired on December 1989.
The programmes of MRTV reflect the government policy.
Started with a one hour a day trial evening programme which was extended to two hours a day and then extended gradully to air in the morning and evening (afternoon transmission in the weekends).
MRTV is the State TV channel and the programs must align with Myanmar traditional values and customs.
Revenue is not the main objective of the MRTV.

MRTV-3 from the Ministry of Information
The second free to air TV channel, in English language aiming at the international audience.
Broadcasting started from 1 August 2001.
MRTV3 programs are in English and it covers a wide range of Myanmar’s unique traditions, culture, history, tourist attractions and etc.
Altogether 156 countries can receive MRTV3 though Thai Com3 for Asia Pacific region, Tel Star5 Satellite for America and Hot Bird 6 Satellite for Europe.
MRTV3 is going on air on an average of 17 hours a day’s.
One hour for Myanmar audience, 8 hours for Europe and another 8 hours for America.
Viewers from Myanmar can tune in from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.

MRTV-4(Free to Air) from the Ministry of Information
The Free to Air channel, MRTV-4 aims for the local audience was officially launched in Myanmar since 15 Feb 2005.
Started with the 6 hours transmission; three transmission a day.
Since April 11 2009, MRTV4 programme is extended to 20 hours program from 5:00 A.M. to 1:00 A.M.
Viewers in Yangon could tune in with VHF antenna.
Mandalay, Sagaing, Pyin Oo Lwin and Rakhine State except Mrauk Oo could tune in with a UHF antenna respectively.

MWD from the Ministry of Defense
Myawady TV, under the Psychological Warfare Department was launched on 27 March 1995.
Also aims for the local audience.
MWD has introduced trail run of MWD-2 and MWD-3 since February 2008.
Daily air time is from 7:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M.
Right now MWD2 and MWD3 are airing Myanmar video movies and feature movies.

MRTV 4 International and other related channels from the Ministry of Information
The first paid TV channel in Myanmar.
Launched in 1 Feb 2009 for MRTV 4 International.
Launched in March 2005 for 5 Movies and in July 2005 for 5 Series.
5 Movies are airing English movies with Myanmar subtitles mostly but sometime for Myanmar movies.
5 Series are airing Korean and English movie series with Myanmar subtitles mostly.
There are 14 channels in total for MRTV-4 International.
They are ESPN, STAR SPORTS, EURO SPORT, TRAVEL & LIVING, CARTOON NETWORK, ANIMAL PLANET, DISCOVERY CHANNEL, NAT GEO ADVENTURE, NAT GEO WILD, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL, STAR WORLD, STAR MOVIES, MTV and CHANNEL [V].
